COURSE RULES DOCUMENTATION
In order to access the course rules feature it is locates in ARA→ Current→ Course Rules
Here you must select and search for the course you wish to create the course rule for
Similarly to the Course Groups feature you see a listing of course rules if any exist for the course and have the ability to add, edit or delete course rules.
When Adding Course rules you are required to fill out the following sections: Rule Type, Rule Name, Rule is Active and add a Course to the Course List section.
When adding course rules the following are the list of course rule types available to select:
Hard Prerequisite - This will block students from submitting registrations unless prerequisites are met
Hard Corequisite - This will block student from submitting registration unless corequisite are met
Soft Prerequisite - This will not block students from submitting registrations prerequisites are highlighted in the students registration course list to notify staff that this student has failed a prerequisite check
Soft Corequisite - This will not block student from submitting registration corequisites are highlighted in the students registration course list to notify staff that this student has failed a corequisite check
When adding courses to the courses list it is classified as an “AND” condition, meaning when students are registering for the course you are creating the rule for they will be required to satisfy the relevant requisite check for each course in that list. In simpler terms as represented in the image below: when registering for ABT5001 you are required to have the prerequisite course ACT1100
You are also able to add “OR“ courses to each “AND“ course in the courses list: The following image represents the following rule: When student registers for ABT5001 you are required to have the prerequisite course ACT1100 OR ACT1200 OR ACT2100.
Using these new combinations you are able to craft more complex course rules such as the following: When registering for a course in this case you are required to pass (CHM1102 AND CHM1103) OR CHM1101
The remainder of the course rules are very similar to the course groups feature where you are able to restrict or allow rules for Students and Programmes Lists
